Market day heats up July 21
posted by SPD Communications on July 20, 2016 in MarketHeaded to the Statehouse Market tomorrow? Join the vendors and food trucks listed below Thursday at the Statehouse Market. The market is open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the temporary location in front of the Indiana State Museum.
We’re expecting a hot one tomorrow at the market, so drink plenty of fluids and enjoy these three things and more.
Jeff’s Three Things for July 21
The Twisted Sicilian has two salads on their menu and neither have any lettuce. The Cucumber Tomato Salad uses local cucumbers and tomatoes. Those are combined with feta cheese & Italian herbs then tossed in a creamy balsamic vinaigrette. And it’s only $5. So is the Watermelon Salad! They call this dish “Summertime in Italy”. Chef Chea Carmack takes fresh watermelon and mixes in feta cheese, fresh mint, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It is a delight! Both salads can be added as a side with any other menu offering too!
If you can’t get enough watermelon, check the Nicey Treat truck and order a Watermelon Nicey to stay hydrated in the heat. My other favorites are the Peach, Strawberry Cream and (It’s here!!!) Sweet Corn. Yes! Nicey Treat announced on Twitter last week that the Sweet Corn is back this season. Let’s hope they’ll have some tomorrow.
Plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables are available tomorrow from our produce vendors. Get ingredients for your own salad, like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers from VanAntwerp’s Farm Market or Biltz Greenhouses. All the vendors, including Wilson Farm, have sweet corn. If you buy too much corn like me, maybe a summer corn salad does the trick.
