Week 20: The last Statehouse Market of 2018!

posted by SPD Communications on October 2, 2018 SHM Week 20

All good things must eventually come to an end and the Statehouse Market is no different.

For the last 20 weeks, we’ve been privileged to bring some of the Hoosier State’s finest farmers, artisans and food truck entrepreneurs to Robert D. Orr Plaza each Thursday for a fun time in the sun. And sometimes rain.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the 2018 season as much as we have and we look forward to meeting you for lunch this Thursday!

Saying goodbye is no picnic, but hold back those tears! The market will return in 2019 with amazing street food from an awesome assortment of food trucks, the finest produce in The Hoosier State, and carefully crafted goods that belong on every shelf.

Just thinking about it has us wishing it was already next summer! Until then, stop by Robert D. Orr Plaza between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 4, for the 2018 Statehouse Market curtain call.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Market Week 14 looks peachy-keen!

posted by SPD Communications on August 20, 2018 Peaches

Contrary to what some may think, you really don’t have to move to the country to eat a lot of peaches.

Actually, all you have to do is drop by the Statehouse Market between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. this Thursday to see an array of nectarines that might be the envy of even the most accomplished Georgia farmers.

And the peaches brought by our amazing lineup of produce vendors certainly don’t come from a can, nor were they put there by someone in a manufacturing facility… downtown or anywhere else. Nope. They’re Hoosier-grown and painstakingly cared for to peak ripeness.

Personally, if we had our little way, we’d probably go ahead and eat peaches every day, and we think you’ll feel the same.

Okay, that’s enough quasi-obscure ’90s Alternative music references for one week, but, in case you haven’t already noticed, we think the Statehouse Market is the perfect place to celebrate National Peach Month. You’ll find plenty of those delectable treats sharing booth real estate with dozens of other fruits and veggies just waiting to be part of your healthy dinner.

All that joins coffee, honey products, pies, artisan ketchup and mustard, dairy products, fresh flowers and so much more!

Oh, and be sure to scope out the dozen or so food trucks lined up to provide customers with an amazingly delicious lunch. As always, these entrepreneurs will be bringing some of the best street food the Indy area has to offer!

We’ll be enjoying it all on Robert D. Orr Plaza Aug. 23; and if you’d take time to join us, well, we think that would be just peachy.

Five Questions with Boxburger

posted by SPD Communications on June 29, 2018 Five Questions

A Greenwood-based food truck is taking a time-tested American fast food favorite and turning it up to 11 with dozens of toppings, seasonings and spices.

You could say they’re thinking “outside the box,” and the result has been a menu unlike any other all-beef patty purveyor in the Hoosier State. To be sure, Brandan Kyle’s Boxburger food truck isn’t at all “boxed-in” by the usual burger tropes and instead lets customers choose exactly how each black Angus beef sandwich is dressed.

Want some peanut butter on that burger? Sure! How about a fried egg and some sweet chili sauce? The answer is, of course, yes.

Read on to find out how Boxburger is making a name for itself on the Hoosier food truck scene by offering an eclectic menu that is anything but “square.”

Q: In only two years Boxburger has gained a reputation for providing one of the Indy area’s best burgers. What sets Boxburger apart from similar food trucks, and how has this helped you stand out in a very competitive business?

A: We knew early on that premium ingredients and consistency would set us apart from similar food trucks, but mostly it is the crew’s dedication to producing a quality product. We are constantly in pursuit of making the perfect burger, and we firmly believe that the next sandwich should be better than the last.

Q: Who are some of the people behind Boxburger and what are their roles?

A: The crew consists of family and friends and the roles vary from day to day. Our event planner, Jan [Shipley], is the brains and brawn behind the operation.

Q: What do you like most about the Statehouse Market?

A: Box Burger TruckWe have a ton of fans at the Statehouse Market. We get a lot praise when we are there and it makes our job easier when we feel appreciated. We love all the folks in downtown Indy!

Q: What are some of Boxburger’s most popular items?

A: Our one-third pound black Angus cheeseburger and our fries. Both are smothered in our house seasoning that our fans rave about.

Q: What makes the perfect burger? What toppings would you include while crafting a top-notch sandwich?

A: We will let you know what makes the perfect burger when we figure that out for ourselves, haha!

We know that all of our customers are different and have different ideas on the perfect burger. We like to leave it open to interpretation on their part. We offer an assortment of over 30 toppings, from the basics to stuff that you would only find at Boxburger. We offer what we think is the best burger in town and let the customer decide how it should be dressed up.

Boxburger has a website and can be found on Facebook and Twitter.

Statehouse Market is part of the Invest In Your Health initiative from the State Personnel Department.
