Market vendors sell Indiana grown products
posted by Melissa on June 19, 2013 in UncategorizedIndiana is known for its rich farm land and a long tradition of eating locally, often home-grown foods. You can easily continue this tradition of eating fresh food from local sources by shopping at the Statehouse Market each Thursday for a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables.
The Statehouse Market strives to be 100 percent grower. This means that all produce sold at the market is grown by the farmers/sellers on their Indiana farms. While it might seem early in the season for some produce, consider that many farmers use greenhouses or “hoop houses” to extend growing seasons. This allows them to provide you with fresh fruits and vegetables for longer periods throughout the year. If you have questions about the produce, how it was grown or even how to prepare it, we encourage you to ask the farmers. They are experts on their product and are happy to answer any questions you may have.
VanAntwerp’s Farm Market is one of the Statehouse Market vendors who has shared pictures of their produce in the field. The picture, featured to the left, is from the farm on June 6.
As you can see from the harvest calendar a variety of produce is in season during summer in Indiana.
