Cucumbers, get them while you can
posted by SPD Communications on July 14, 2015 in TipsTaking a look around the market you may notice cucumbers slowly starting to swindle in number. The season for fresh cucumbers is coming to a close. So, get them while you can! When trying to eat healthier, you may not have to look for a large variety because cucumbers seems to have it all! Here are just a few of the ways you can substitute your typical food items with the healthier option, cucumbers.
1. Burst of energy. After your lunch starts to settle, it is common to feel a little drowsy and like you need some energy to get you going again. Typically, people would grab a cup of coffee, many times with sugar, cream and additive flavors. You may start to feel the energy, but that cup of coffee may be adding a lot of unnecessary calories to your diet. Cucumbers are filled with B vitamins, which gives you the energy that you are looking for. With only eight calories per serving, cucumbers may just become your afternoon energy burst!
2. Rehydrates the body. The reason cucumbers are so low in calories is their high water content levels. Cucumbers are 95 percent water, making this a great summertime snack. After being in the hot sun, eating cucumbers is a simple way to make sure your body is back up to the correct hydration levels.
3. Relieves join pain. Silica is a natural supplement that assists with the strengthening of the connective tissues in joints. These tissues are very important to keeping joints limber and pain-free. Silica is found in cucumbers and is a great way to keep you and your joints feeling great!
